Autumn Term 2017
Our Autumn Term theme is Muck, Mess and Mixtures!
Muck Mess and Mixtures
Let's get messy! Muck and mess is good! In fact, it's mega- marvellous!
Dive in and get your hands and feet all sticky and covered in paint. Play with liquids, squish some dough and check out the slushiest and mushiest foods. Pour, mix, stir, splat! How does it feel to get your hands covered in goo? Make a wobbly jelly and draw with wibbly clay.
Write recipes, instructions, riddles and poems- There are loads of scrummy words to describe messy mixture.
You can learn more about this on the link below;
Our learning journey so far:
We have enjoyed exploring and investigating during Messy Mondays:-
We have made revolting recipes in the tuff tray, Invetigated shapes of bubbles through pipe cleaners, created our names using natural resources and investigated sticky substances.
We have also had the opprtunity to work on our scooter skills.
PC Williams visited us in school and we talked about what was safe and who should give us medicines.
Artist -Carl Warner
We are also focusing on the artist Carl Warner. Carl Warner is a photographer who creates landcapes from food. We will be creating our own 'foodscape' using pictures and magazines aswell as working collaboratively to create one large foodscape. We will photograph our final piece and display it on our page.
To see more of Carl Warners art work click here.
We are a Rights Respecting School. We are aware of the rights of the child and discuss these in class.
This is our class charter
We love to read!
These are some of the reading strategies we use to help us learn to read.
Visit the oxford owl website where you can have access to free e books for your child to read at home.
We are learning our times tables in class and we like to use the TTRockstars website to challenge ourselves and also J2blast on Hwb. Have a go at some of the contests on sumdog!
Building Learning Power
We have been very busy building our learning habits. Below are some of the learning habits we have focused on so far.
We have developed strategies to help us when we are stuck and when we find things difficult.
We have developed our understanding of collaboration and work together as a team to complete the challenge and tasks.
We have developed our questioning skills through many activities such as show and tell, questioning visitors and on the curiosity table. We now understand why we need to ask good questions and what a good question may be.
We have focused on the different types of listening in Year 2. We have identified what a good listener has, What a good listens for, what a good listener thinks and what a good listener does not do.
We have used our imagination skills throughout the theme Street detectives and Muck, Mess and Mixtures. We enjoyed learning about our minds eye.
We have used our reasoning skills to help solve problems and to deepen our thinking. We love puzzles and maths problems. Sudoku games are fun!
