Spring Term 2018
Our Spring Term theme is Towers, Tunnels and Turrets (Castles and Fairytales)
See the castle ahead? Get ready to invade its mighty walls! Head across the drawbridge, over the moat and up to the top of the tower… Meet the people that lived in castles. Can you name some of the castles in wales? How were castles built and can you name parts of the castle? Meet Rapunzel who lived in a tall, tall tower. Let’s build a new one, whose is the tallest? Can you measure it?
As part of the theme, we have decided to focus on fairy tales and castles. We will spend the term reading different fairy tale stories and learning all about castle life- the people that lived in them and how they were built. We will use ICT to research this information and to find out more about castles in Wales.
You can learn more about this on the link below;

We are a Rights Respecting School. We are aware of the rights of the child and discuss these in class.

We love to read!
These are some of the reading strategies we use to help us learn to read.
Visit the oxford owl website where you can have access to free e books for your child to read at home.
We are learning our times tables in class and we like to use the TTRockstars website to challenge ourselves and also J2blast on Hwb. Have a go at some of the contests on sumdog!
Building Learning Power
We have been very busy building our learning habits. Below are some of the learning habits we have focused on so far.
We have developed strategies to help us when we are stuck and when we find things difficult.
We have developed our understanding of collaboration and work together as a team to complete the challenge and tasks.
We have developed our questioning skills through many activities such as show and tell, questioning visitors and on the curiosity table. We now understand why we need to ask good questions and what a good question may be.
We have focused on the different types of listening in Year 2. We have identified what a good listener has, What a good listens for, what a good listener thinks and what a good listener does not do.
We have used our imagination skills throughout the theme Street detectives and Muck, Mess and Mixtures. We enjoyed learning about our minds eye.
We have used our reasoning skills to help solve problems and to deepen our thinking. We love puzzles and maths problems. Sudoku games are fun!
